About the Citizen's Police Academy:

The Citizen's Police Academy provides community members with an inside look at the Pittsburg Police Department. While participating in the Academy, students will be introduced to a variety of topics as described in the Spring 2015 Citizen's Police Academy Schedule.

The nine-week Academy is designed to give citizens an overview of the police department's function and operational procedures. The curriculum and teachings are real examples of police methodology and casework; however, are not intended to train students as police officers.

Academy classes will be taught by police executives as well as veteran police officers. Students will have the opportunity to meet with the Chief of Police as well as other department staff members. Students are encouraged to ask questions and to express ideas and concerns to the instructors.

Selection Procedure and Requirements:

Citizen's Police Academy participants will be selected by the Chief of Police through an application process. Applications may be printed using the following online link: Citizens' Police Academy Application, or picked up in the font lobby of the police department. Enrollment is limited to 15 students per class.

Potential candidates for the Citizen's Police Academy must meet the following criteria:

  • Minimum age of 18 years
  • Live or work in Pittsburg
  • No felony convictions
  • No misdemeanor convictions within one year of application
  • Any requirement may be waived or modified upon review and approval of the Chief of Police

Applications may be submitted in person at the police department front counter Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. or emailed to: citizensacademy@ci.pittsburg.ca.us.
