There are two large picnic areas with natural shading available next to the Community Center. Each picnic area has a capacity of 100 people, have stainless steel sinks, food prep tables and large BBQ pits, these areas are available for rentals. Also available are three smaller picnic areas with large BBQ pits and are covered under shade structures. These areas are also available for rentals and are located next to the Community Center, capacity of 50 each. Buchanan Park also offers 18 other picnic sites with picnic tables and BBQ pits spread throughout the park, many offer ample shade from mature trees.
There is a large pond with fountains in the middle of the park; many people enjoy feeding the ducks or watching the family of turtles bask in the sun. Buchanan Park hosts two play areas, one tot lot for ages 2-5 with baby swings and one larger playground for ages 5-12 with regular swings. Other amenities at Buchanan Park include large turf play areas, two horseshoe pits, restrooms and a snack shack adjacent to the pool that is open during summer months. Buchanan Park sits along Kirker Creek and there is an abundance of wildlife throughout the park and the trails that follow the creek bed.
