Park Construction Progress Report Released
Brief Update on Construction of 2 Parks on City's west side
PITTSBURG – City officials released a progress report Wednesday for two park construction projects on the west side of the City that will be open to the public in 2017.
The pool at Ambrose Park is undergoing a renovation that is proceeding despite the rainy weather. The Ambrose Recreation and Park District, Contra Costa County and the City of Pittsburg partnered on the project, which is scheduled to be open to the public for summer 2017.
Also underway is construction of Ray Giacomelli Community Park at West Leland Road and San Marco Boulevard. The park was previously known as San Marco Community Park. The first phase of the six-acre park includes play structures, a picnic area, parking lot, rest rooms and a dog park on two acres. This portion of the park is scheduled to be complete by October 2017. Construction begins later this year for the second phase, which includes play fields and other features on the remaining four acres.
Also in the area, a private developer has begun construction of an apartment complex located east of the park at West Leland Road and Tomales Bay Drive. The project to construct 318 apartments on 13.3 acres was approved in 1993 as part of a planned development that also includes parks and single family homes.
